Hammer Steps to planting a hedge The first step is to create a straight line which you will follow to ensure that your hedge is straight. There is nothing sloppier on a great looking lawn than a crooked hedge. Once you have measured the length of your hedge, use the rope and stakes to mark your line. Make sure you do not create a hedge that sits right on your property line. Give yourself two to three feet of room between you and your neighbor. Use the hammer to secure the stakes into the ground. The next step is to mark where you want your hedges. You should leave a foot between each hedge in order to give them room to grow. Aerate your soil if necessary and clear away all grass and weeds from the soil. Measure the length of the roots of the hedge. They will be wrapped up in a ball, but you can measure from the top of the ball to the bottom. This will tell you how big to dig the hole. You should dig twice as far as the root length. (if the root is 6 inches, you should dig at least 12 inches). Begin digging. After you are done, you can place the hedge into the ground. Make sure you fill the hole up with enough soil. Make sure the hedge is secure before moving on the next one. You should monitor your hedges during the first few days in order to make sure they are getting enough water, the soil is not eroding at the base, and the hedges are not falling over. If you are looking for a privacy hedge, then you will have to buy hedges that are larger. Plant them the same way or hire a landscaper if they are too heavy to move. Hedges will need to be trimmed and should always appear straight. While you can create a sloping hedge, you will have to be consistent with the slope so that it looks intentional and does not looking like a trimming mistake. Therefore it is obvious to think that when creating legislation they must create an equal balance between police powers and public liberty. In 1978 the royal commission on criminal procedure was set up. It felt that the way in which police powers were controlled were to sparse, one example of this is that there were over 70 statues under which police had powers to stop and search. It also felt that crime investigation should be separated from criminal prosecution. This spawned the creation of the crown prosecution service in the 1980s. Before its creation the police and the director of prosecutions were the ones in charge of the procedure. Therefore, the police acted as both the investigator and the and the prosecutors. One major concern was that the police would not gather sufficient information to prosecute, and may sometimes force false confessions in order to convict a suspected criminal. In 1984 the Police and Criminal Evidence act was created. Its task was to modernise the law that governed police powers. However, information from the public was greater in those days as the officer had a direct relationship with the public. Whereas two police officers in a car maybe able to catch more criminals easier, they are seen as less personal and so the public is less likely to give up valuable information. The police forces role vastly changed during the 1970s and 1980s, as there was a sudden increase in urban riots and industrial disputes. Police needed to be trained to deal with crowd control and riots. But the tactics used by these new forces came under much scrutiny and were dubbed paramilitary tactics. Getting Spring Cleaning Out of the Way Now!

By Carole Pagan It'll be summer before you know it! I'm already surveying
the spring cleaning that needs to be done. After all, I am
the Clean Freak. Besides, once it gets warm - I want to
play! Here are some tips that will help you make sure
you are ready to play once the temperatures get warm. Use that spring optimism and make sure you are
ready to play when the weather finally breaks! Forget
waiting until spring to start spring cleaning. I mean,
who wants to be cleaning when its warm outside?
Use the impending warm weather as motivation to get
you moving during this frustrating time of year. Your
house will be clean and youll be free. Pick one of these tasks anytime you have a little extra time. Wash your figurines. I use dish soap. Just be careful that
the paint on the figurine can stand up to being immersed
in water. Wash your silk plant arrangements. Wipe down picture frames with a soft rag and Murphy
Oil Soap. Wash down your wood furniture with Weimans Furniture
Soap. Remember to wring rag out well. You dont want to
get your wood furniture too wet! Follow up with Weimans
Furniture cream. If the top of a wood piece of furniture is not looking as
shiny as it used to, you can gently apply rubbing compound.
Rinse well with a well wrung out rag and clean a second
time before applying furniture cream. Ive been using this
technique on my dresser for almost 30 years. Same dresser.
Still looks great. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Move the furniture and vacuum
behind. Edge. Vacuum the furniture. Vacuum your blinds.
Vacuum your mattresses. Clean the range hood. Even if you just work at it 5 minutes
at a time until its clean. Something I call the wear away
principle. I talk about it in Secret Confessions of a Clean
Freak. (leave the oven until you can open the windows.) Wash your window treatments. If you have open space above the kitchen cabinets, get up
there and clean it! If its really bad, you can use orange
409 and steel wool. If its really, really bad, spray generously
with orange 409 and let it sit for 15 minutes. Use a scraper
to remove the tough layers of gunk. Then clean again with
409 and steel wool. Wash the walls. Especially in the kitchen, bath and hallway.
Do a little at a time. Dont kill yourself. If youre not in the habit of wiping down your cabinets on a
regular basis, you should get in the habit. It will keep your
cabinets looking great a lot longer. Wipe wood cabinets
down with Murphy Oil Soap. If its gotten really bad, you
may have to revert to the wear away principle. Dont get
overzealous or you may scratch the cabinets! Keep your animals brushed. Some things just dont make sense to do now. Cleaning
the carpet when were coming into muddy season doesnt
really make much sense. Wont hurt either. I love my Kirby!
I can clean the carpets as often as I want. Washing the blinds now is difficult then we cant hang them
outside to dry. Darn. Mine really need it. How about yours?
Oh well Just do a little here and there, and by the time April
comes around- there wont be much left to do inside.
Youll be able to get outside and feel that warm sunshine. Besides, you'll get some exercise so you can look great
